Last Day and Memorial Day in Washington, D.C.

We started my last day in DC off with a good breakfast at the hostel. We means Stuti, Lara and I, the two met each other in Boston a few weeks ago and we stayed together at the hostel in Washington, D.C. We had so much fun. After breakfast we headed to Georgetown and decided spontaneous to get a Mani/Pedi, Ha! It was a nice treatment.
After getting our nails done we went back to DC to have lunch at Ella’s Wood Fired Pizzas and then visited the International Spy Museum. We were quiet fascinated. At the exhibition we get to know Sandra and Stanley a really nice and fun couple living in New York.
I don’t know how that happened, but all of a sudden we were discussing about the latest political events. It was very interesting to learn about their opinion on the presidential elections that will take place in November 2016. We talked long and totally forgot time. Indeed these are really exciting times for the USA.

We didn't have enough time to make it through the rest of the exhibition since we wanted to go to the Arlington Cemetery as long as it wasn’t raining, there were dark clouds coming up. But we lucked out with the weather, the sky cleared up and we even saw a beautiful sunrise that evening.

We made it right on time to the Arlington National Cemetery, about an hour before it closed.
As stated in the brochure, we got at the entrance or on the website, Arlington National Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 400’000 active duty service members, veterans and their families. It has evolved into a national shrine to those who served The American Nation in times of war and in peace.
We watched The Old Guard change at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a memorial that contains the remains of unknown service members from World War I, World War II and the Korean War, as written in the brochure. We also learned, that the guard watches over the tomb 24 hours every single day throughout the year. They change every hour in fall- and wintertime and every half an hour during spring- and summertime.
Since it was Memorial Day, a ceremony, held by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, took place at the Cemetery. Members of the Old Guard place flags in front of every headstone at the Arlington National Cemetery. On this special day, which is always the last Monday of May, all those who fell during serving for the United States of America, will be honored.

I think I can speak for the three of us, because we talked about it, that we’ve been very honored and moved and saddened being in such a sacred place.

We walked back to DC, saw enjoyed a beautiful sunset and visited the Lincoln Memorial. We were impressed with the beauty and the architecture of this temple.

We had a wonderful day, that we ended with a delicious dinner at the Elephant & Castle a nice pub in Washington, D.C.
I was so happy meeting this two girls, we really had a great day!
