Last
Thursday I went hiking in Morteratsch with my dad, definitely one of the best
hiking buddies one could ask for. He sure knows a lot about geography and you
can see that he’s been fascinated by mountains ever since. I’m really grateful
to share this hobby with him.
It was a
beautiful day, the sun shined, there were only a few clouds and the leaves
started to change their color slightly from. It was pretty freezing, but once
we started moving, we got warm pretty quick. We both were in awe of the beauty
of nature that surrounded us, it was amazing.

We had
picnic right in front of the Morteratsch Glacier. As you walk towards it, there
are signs in 5-10 year steps beginning in 1900. It shows how much it fades in
5-10 years. It was fascinating and worrying to see nature’s way.
Here you
see how much it faded since 2015, only one year ago. See where the glacier
tongue is now.
It’s a
beautiful journey to get to Morteratsch. Depending from where you’re leaving it
may take you some time, but it’s so worth it. We travelled by train and passed gorgeous
landscapes. This route which leads from Chur to Tirano and is part of the
UNESCO World Heritage Site, will take you over many bridges and viaducts.
Unfortunately I don’t have a better picture.
It was a beautiful day.
